Around 20 typhoons hit Japan annually which brings severe rainfall that result in flash floods or landslides.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the most recent storm, Talas, was churning close to the northeast of the nation, 100 kilometres (62 miles) off the coast of Omaezaki at 6 am Friday (2100 GMT).
The JMA reported that it could gust as high as 90 kilometres per hour.
Tokyo and other cities in central, eastern, and northern Japan have received warnings from the agency regarding strong waves, torrential rain, landslides, and floods.
